DESCRIPTION:

Sarah desperately wants a horse for her birthday. She'll call it Treacle because it will be brown like dark liquid sugar. They'll go everywhere together, even to school. But, as Sarah starts to realise when she dreams of Treacle, you need other things when you have a horse - like a safety helmet, and a bridle, and a saddle. So she starts to ask for these things for her birthday, too. When Sarah doodles with her pencil, she starts to draw Treacle. She can't think of anything else but her dream pony. Before long she even behaves like a horse herself - galloping and stamping and whinnying. When her birthday arrives, Sarah discovers that there is no Treacle. But her mum gives her a birthday card with a message inside it to say that Sarah has been booked in for riding lessons. And then Dad gives her a book about horses, another book about drawing horses, and paper, pens and paints. Sarah understands that it's not possible for her to have Treacle - not yet. But it's fun having a horse this new way, too.
