Andrew McLean has taught painting, drawing and art, but is now a full-time painter and illustrator of children's books. Many of the books he has illustrated have received awards from the Children's Book Council of Australia. Andrew and his wife, Janet, have also created many popular and award-winning picture books together, including Hector and Maggie, Dog Tales and Josh.

Penny Matthews has worked for many years in children’s book publishing, and is now a freelance editor and writer. Her first picture book, "Moving On", was published in 1993, and was followed by four more picture books, three chapter books and two junior novels. In 2003 "A Year on Our Farm", illustrated by Andrew McLean, was the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year (Early Childhood) and an Honour Book in the Picture Book of the Year awards. Penny is married, has two grown-up children, and lives in Adelaide.
